Liberals from Slovakia and Moldova join ELDR Party

Partidul Liberal 45%

European Liberals continue to strengthen their numbers. Through welcoming the membership applications from Slovak party Sloboda a Solidarita (Freedom and Solidarity) and Moldovan party Partidul Liberal (Liberal Party), ELDR now comprises 58 member parties in 36 European countries - and thanks to these two new member parties, has government participation in 15 of these countries through 21 parties.

Congratulating party leader and speaker of the Slovak Parliament Richard Sulik, ELDR Party President Annemie Neyts-Uyttebroeck MEP expressed her utmost satisfaction on the unanimous approval by the ELDR Council on the party's membership application. As the father of the Slovak flat tax scheme, Richard Sulik has remarkably proven that liberal policies translate successfully into electoral successes. The Party is the second strongest party in the new government coalition of the Slovak Republic and represented with 4 Ministers.

The Moldovan liberal party Partidul Liberal was also unanimously accepted as a new member of the European liberal family. Led by Moldova's interim President Mihai Ghimpu, the liberal party is a government coalition partner in the Alliance for European Integration - together with another ELDR Member Party, Alliance Moldova Noastră.

President Neyts expressed her pleasure after the Party's acceptance by the ELDR Council. "In the November 28 Parliamentary elections liberals will lead the way to k. ep Moldova on the road of constitutional reform, towards freedom, democracy and prosperity".
