Government funding ceases from next July for the 21-year Growing Up in New Zealand study, placing it in jeopardy, according to Labour deputy leader Annette King.

Families and data will be lost from the study, Ms King said in Parliament this afternoon.

The study was commissioned by the Social Development Ministry in 2008 under the Labour-led Government. The shortfall in Government investment comes before the study is fully established and able to attract other investors.

Ms Annette King quizzed social development minister Paula Bennett in the House as to whether the Government would fund it beyond July 2012.
